BITFLEX Quick Spray

The surface must be properly prepared before applying BITFLEX Quick Spray. The substrate intended for product application must be bound, continuous, seasoned, loadbearing, not frozen. If the substrate is contaminated with petroleum-based agents, these must be removed effectively. The surface should be cleaned mechanically, dust, tarnish, any loose pieces and layers, sharp protruding edges and impurities that worsen adhesion should be removed. If there are cavities in the substrate, honeycombing, gravel pockets and other unevenness, the substrate should be levelled and repaired, the cavities should be filled. A suitable levelling mortar should be used to repair cavities.
The use of levelling plaster is recommended in exceptional cases, e.g. on a very uneven substrate, especially when the wall is made of small-sized elements with large gaps between them and an incomplete joint, in conditions of exposure to water under pressure. BITFLEX Quick Spray can be used on a dry or slightly damp substrate. A damp substrate prolongs the setting time.

Edges and corners: The exterior right angles should be chamfered (bevelled), while the interior angles should be properly rounded by making facets. On mineral substrates, a facet can be made of mineral mortar e.g. NEXLER RENOBUD R 103 (radius 4 - 5 cm) or PMBC (KMB) compound e.g. NEXLER BITFLEX 1KP (radius 2 cm). On bituminous substrates make a facet of PMBC (KMB) compound. A cat's tongue trowel is best suited for creating facets.

Check the production date on the packaging before use. The product should not be incorporated beyond its shelf life. The product should not be objectionable after opening , e.g. contain lumps. After mixing, the compound should be homogeneous and free of lumps. Do not use a product that bears signs of frostbite. When properly mixed, the product forms a homogeneous coating when spread over the surface with a tool.

The BITFLEX Quick Spray product must be thoroughly mixed before application. The proportions of BITFLEX Quick Spray to coagulation solution are chosen according to the type of substrate and weather conditions. Spray bitumen and coagulant solution in a ratio of 5 : 1 to 10 : 1 (bitumen : coagulant mixed with water). The bitumen and coagulation solution must not be mixed together before spraying.

Coagulating solution: Dissolve calcium chloride in water in a ratio of 8 : 1 to 10 : 1 (water : calcium chloride).

Thickness of a layer should be checked by material consumption control on a dedicated surface. The use of an inspection plate will result in damage that needs to be repaired by spraying an additional layer or applying a repair compound. If too thin a layer is applied, wait 24 to 48 hours (depending on weather conditions) for the existing layer to dry and then apply another one to locally supplement the existing layer. After it has dried, a properly made coating should be a uniform, clean coating, without flakes and other defects. The coating should adhere closely to the primed substrate.

BITFLEX Quick Spray is applied mechanically using an airless spraying device. The first layer should be sprayed with BITFLEX Quick Spray without a coagulant solution. When spraying a layer of BITFLEX Quick Spray without coagulant, the consumption should be around 0,2 - 0,3 kg/m². Leave the surface to dry before applying the next layer. Please note that the applied material is included in the coating thickness, i.e. it does not increase the assumed consumption per 1 m². Apply subsequent layers by feeding two components, i.e. bitumen-natural rubber dispersion compound and coagulant, to two circuits consisting of flexible, high-pressure hoses. The hoses are connected to a double atomiser, at the end of which two conical nozzles are attached. The nozzles should be positioned in such an order that BITFLEX Quick Spray is the first to make contact with the substrate. In order to set the correct pressure of the BITFLEX Quick Spray and coagulant solution with water, it is advisable to carry out a test by directing the spray into a bucket (or other container). Keep spray nozzles between 0,7 and 1,0 m from the substrate. Spraying should be carried out perpendicular to the surface of the substrate. The spray is performed in one direction (left to right) with no return. If you need to make corrections or create a thicker layer, withdraw the lances and start spraying from a convenient location. In this way, you can obtain a waterproofing layer with the appropriate thickness after just one application. The thickness of the applied layer depends on the sprayer lance movement speed (more detailed information can be found in our application instructions). The working surface must end, or start, a minimum of 30 cm beyond the concave or convex edge.
During application, we recommend wearing a protective suit along with a protective visor that can be cleaned of the emulsion.

Backfilling the excavation: The time for the waterproofing to bind completely, allowing the excavation to be backfilled, is 3 to 7 days.
After binding, the waterproof coating should be protected against mechanical damage associated with backfilling the excavation. Therefore, it is recommended to use additional protection, if not in the form of waterproof thermal insulation boards, then PE, EPDM film or non-woven fabric. Standard dimpled membranes should not be used as a protective and drainage layer to protect bituminous foundation waterproofing, as the dimples may exert local pressure on the coating under soil pressure and damage it. An exception are dimpled membranes with integrated filter fleece.
